|Filey Methodist Church|
I was on the bus from Scarborough yesterday and a caravanner staying in Cayton was telling me how she liked Filey . I told her I lived in the old town and that my cottage was at least 18th C , and then amazed her by saying that the roof beams were ship's masts. I had a captive audience when I went on to mention that our cottage is built of boulders from the beach . She went on to remark that she had no idea Filey had an old town .
People visiting Filey think that Filey Methodist is the Parish Church , and do not realise when arriving for a day trip that the north east part of Filey has some fascinating old streets, and ancient Parish Church almost on the cliffs , a great little museum and the car -friendly Country Park where the best views of the bay and Filey Brigg are to be found. I'm saying this because to me Filey Methodist, St Marys RC and the Salvation Army Church and our own St Johns and St Thomas's Gristhorpe are the CHURCH together in Filey . To me , a church is where a roof over our heads, whilst meeting for Prayer and Worship , is just that-somewhere where we are warm and dry .
So next Thursday 28th July , our little cottage is going to become a place where we DO CHURCH from 9am until 2pm . I am inviting all you out of Filey , to find some time on that day to take a few minutes out , wherever YOU are and DO CHURCH in your home , office or school with a friend, or alone with the HS (that makes 2, or is it really 5) and pray for us. PCC members and Bishop Alison will be interviewing candidates to be our new Priest.
