Now that Borgen is over

Benedikte Hansen
This person of Filey Parish should not have worried about what to do on a Saturday evening now that Borgen is over. It's simple really. You just schedule the Homegroup annual party for the first available Saturday night with no Danish distraction with subtitles.
I put my favourite character Hanne Holm up  for you, played by Benedikte Hansen. I like Hanne . She is clever, and feisty, a real character . I won't tell you more about her or Borgen, its all on  iplayer (2 days left) and I expect the boxed set is already out. This series about a Danish Prime Minister, whose personal and family life twists around clever , scheming and honest politicians, is but a picture of real life.
The real life of the Homegroup Party was just as fraught with dilemma , scheming and honesty. S tried to cheat in the Candle Game, the other S sat in the corner and read a book about Ants, K had 3 helpings of pudding , everyone  thought  Angelina Joly was Posh Spice, all the Curried lamb went, and some had it on the same plate as Veggie Lasagne , and at the same time. Surprise celebrities dropped by from Brompton on Swale.  The gracious hostess had actually polished  the wooden furniture with Liquid Gold. Yes! it was all there; flawed, bowed, triumphant and hopeful.
And there it is -the Parish would just solve all its financial concerns if only it would persuade the BBC to come and film us. We would happily give the royalties to the PCC.

So what are you worried about ?

  • not having enough money
  • what the future holds
  • what will the new incumbent actually be like
  • that no one values you
  • that you are valued but no one knows the real you
  • that prayer is a total dilemma for you
  • that you just don't know how you are going to go into Monday
This coming week the Church year moves rapidly on into Lent. But Jesus doesn't. He never thought Lent up. He is not complicated, only sometimes unfathomable, He does not foster intrigue,as in Borgen . Here is what He said, and I believe it

I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they (I) can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
John 10v10 Lent(The Message)

And what happens when Lent is over, well our homegroup gets back to John's Gospel

Oh, the games we play!
