Filey to honour heroes
During a recent trip to the US I was walking through an airport with an American colleague. He suddenly stopped and walked over to a soldier in uniform, warmly shook him by the hand and said "I want to say thank you for all you are doing to protect this country". This man was a complete stranger to him.
I was quite moved by this and then felt quite ashamed by the way we treat forces personnel in the UK. So reading today how Filey is set to become an ally for a national scheme which provides support for our armed forces made me feel a little better. The concept gives Army, Royal navy and RAF personnel and veterans certain discounts at businesses and hotels and provides a huge morale boost for serving troops.
