i've been suffering with man flu for a couple of days. sore throat, aching body, fuzzy head, shivers. i'm not looking for sympathy, i've not had much from my wife, my children have been great though!
i'll be honest, it's probably just a cold and i'm sure i'll make a full recovery in a day or so.
switch on the news, read a paper and you're likely to see a story about jade goody, a star of reality television shows, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. when i read about her and thousands of others i have no right to moan about a fuzzy head or a sore throat. i have to be grateful that i am healthy and i can take a tablet that will fix whatever is wrong with me.
goody and many others in her position face their illness bravely with courage, but there is no doubt there is a massive element of fear, not knowing how long their treatment will take, not knowing how they will react to medicines and drugs and perhaps most frightening of all, not know how long they have to live.
there are a couple of things we can do to help reduce the fear of those suffering from life threatening illnesses. give some money. i know i'd feel better knowing there was plenty of funding for research into appropriate cures. you can give money here. or if you are the praying kind, you can pray for people, hospitals, hospices, researchers. it can make a massive difference.
