Filey Parish: Blogging for Lent – Fear for the Future
Here is another screen shot from the computer game Fallout 3. It is a view of Washington DC after a nuclear war. Do you think it is a good choice for Friday 13th? It is easy to be fearful of what is happening in the world – with increasing terrorism, Iran having nuclear capabilities, global warming and destabilisation of the world’s financial systems. The last of these is having implications in our personal lives for most of us. What is going to happen in the future? There is one book in the Bible that seems to be ignored a lot among Christians and that is Revelation. Reading through parts of Revelation can aggravate our fear, especially Revelation 16. In my opinion there is a lot of symbolism in John’s vision described in Revelation but I believe much of it has yet to be fulfilled. So things are going to get worse? No doubt they will but it won’t last for ever. Read what is at the end of Revelation in chapters 21 and 22. This is my favourite passage in the bible. No matter what happens we know that God will ultimately have the victory and all evil will be for ever banished. Hallelujah!
